Surveyor
humble patriot in long service to our country; known for honesty
GW was born in Virginia. His first full-time employment was as a land surveyor.
When he joined the military service, his leadership skills were soon widely recognized and he rose in rank untill becoming the Commander of all his nation’s armed forces.
Due to highly positive name recognition following his successful military career, GW was elected to various state and federal offices, finally as President of the United States, where his most notable achievements were in the areas of foreign relations, promoting religious freedom and eventually, voluntarily freeing his own slaves.
As first President of the United States, GW established important precedent for our democracy by requesting to be addressed as “Mr. W” (rather than “Your Excellency” or “Sir”) and voluntarily limiting his service as President to two terms.
The story of immediately admitting to his father that he, as a lad, had chopped down the family cherry tree, is likely only fiction but was often repeated as a lesson in promptly taking personal responsibility.
(By now you have guessed that GW was George Washington)
