Sales After Many Part-Time Jobs

Friendly with people and willing to undertake many different part-time jobs, he finally focused on one career in real estate

PJ was born on Long Island. His father was the town’s first African-American police officer. His mother was a nurse. In high school, PJ played football, ran track, and graduated. On the recommendation of a HS teacher, he won a music scholarship to a local, small college, where he studied violin for a time – probably appearing different physically from many of his fellow music students at 6’4″ with a bushy black beard and a body which would well serve him well later as a nightclub “bouncer.”

MANY TALENTS AND PART-TIME JOBS BUT NOT YET A CAREER

Following HS graduation, PJ cobbled together many part-time jobs to earn a living; all were interesting, but none were a path to a focused career:

Cook – he enjoyed fishing and hunting and cooking what he caught; his big dinners were legendary for roasting pigs, which led to his appearance on a local public access TV channel in Long Island, where he shared his technique for making meat rubs

Athletics – PJ played rugby and coached both football and baseball for local youth leagues

Wood artisan – he enjoyed making furniture

Welding – PJ learned how to be an accomplished welder, often picking up a lot of old pieces and making them into useful, one-of-a-kind lamps

DJ – PJ the DJ! In addition to “spinning records” he would sometimes just grab the mic and start singing, becoming the entertainment himself

Security – For a decade, PJ was a “bouncer” at a popular music spot on Long Island, where the musicians well appreciated him protecting them from unruly patrons

MOTIVATED TO FOCUS ON PURSUING A SINGLE CAREER

Finally trying to focus on a single CAREER instead of multiple JOBS, PJ studied for and passed the test to earn his real estate license, where he could utilize his personality to guide both sellers and buyers toward a successful transaction.

Utilizing his real estate experience, PJ parlayed that skill into managing property for others. Now his multiple interests could be carried on as hobbies while he continued to learn the nuances of real estate sales by taking courses and listening to fellow realtors with more experience.
