Harpsichordist
Attending a music concert inspired a career
FAMILY BACKGROUND
KC was born and raised in the Manhattan Borough of New York City; his father taught English at the High School of Music and Art; his mother worked at the Museum of Modern Art; both parents were painters and art collectors.
OBSERVING MUSICIAN SPARKS CAREER INTEREST
He began studying piano at a young age; a brief residency at his high school by a famous harpsichordist fired his enthusiasm for that instrument, leading to his study with a famous teacher; KC attended Columbia University, earning a Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctorate degree in musicology.
SKILL RECOGNITION LEADS TO OPPORTUNITIES
Following a solo harpsichord recital, KC received a good review from the New York Times music critic and thus was invited to play regularly at music festivals in Santa Fe, New Mexico was well as in Switzerland, Austria, and New York’s Lincoln Center; he taught music at Barnard and Columbia University.
CAREER SATISFACTION
KC enjoyed improvising music for the harpsichord, especially after finding by chance in a London bookstore, while rummaging through old books, a frayed, early 18th century volume of Handel’s operas and oratorios, which he then adapted to play for audiences and were warmly received as authentic, newly discovered Baroque music.
